The Gauteng Gambling Board (GGB) recently met with the Lesotho Casino Board to exchange knowledge on gambling regulations and operational best practices. This strategic collaboration aims to enhance bilateral ties and support future development initiatives in the gaming sector.
During the meeting, Karabo Mbele, CEO of Gauteng Gambling Board, provided an overview of South Africa’s gambling industry, emphasizing the importance of legislative implementation and compliance in ensuring effective governance.
This partnership comes as part of the 2nd Binational Commission meeting between South African and Lesotho leaders, held in Maseru on April 22-23. The collaboration marks a significant step toward regional cooperation and mutual regulatory growth, fostering a more structured and transparent gaming industry.
About Gauteng Gambling Board
The Gauteng Gambling Board is a statutory body established in terms of section 3 of the Gauteng Gambling Act, No 4 of 1995 as amended.
Prior to August 1996 betting on horse-racing and other sporting events was the only form of legal gambling in Gauteng. During August 1996 the Gauteng Gambling Act 1995 (Act No 4 of 1995), was promulgated. This Act legalized other forms of gambling in the Province and provided for the establishment of the Gauteng Gambling Board.
