Betting operator BetPawa experienced a temporary technical malfunction that affected customer accounts on its Ugandan platform. In a public update on X, the company said it activated Maintenance Mode to fix a technical fault affecting betslip payout.

The post reassured users there was no cyberattack and asked for patience while engineers worked to restore normal service. “Maintenance Underway! We are currently resolving a technical issue regarding incorrect betslip settlements. No, we haven’t been attacked, we just need a moment to fix a glitch, so we’ve had to go into Maintenance Mode. All operations will resume shortly.” Users who tried to access the site saw a notice saying improvements were in progress and services would return soon.

Several account holders reported unexpected balances in their betting wallets despite having no active or winning tickets. One user said they woke up to find Shs354,000 in their account; another reported seeing Shs63,000 with no matching winning slip. Industry sources estimate the erroneous settlements could amount to billions of shillings, though BetPawa has not released official figures. Some customers also experienced withdrawal problems: funds were deducted from betting wallets but did not immediately reach linked mobile money accounts.

The platform was placed in Maintenance Mode while technical teams investigated and corrected the settlement error. Withdrawals were temporarily paused to prevent further inconsistencies. BetPawa says impacted transactions are being reconciled and legitimate withdrawals are being processed. By the time services resumed, unintended credits had been reversed for affected accounts and disrupted withdrawals were reportedly reconciled.

Livingstone Mugambe, BetPawa’s marketing manager in Uganda, declined to give detailed comments and referred inquiries to the appropriate officials. BetPawa operates in Uganda under the supervision of the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board. The company has said it is reviewing internal safeguards to increase system reliability and reduce the risk of similar faults in future. BetPawa reiterated its commitment to transparency, customer protection, and operational integrity, and thanked users for their patience during the disruption.
