Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emphasized that the introduction of mobile money interoperability under the previous NPP administration led to the creation of over 900,000 MoMo agents and jobs in Ghana.

He stressed that great nations are built on visionary ideas rather than individual wealth, arguing that innovation and sound policy formulation are the true drivers of job creation and national development.

Speaking in Dormaa as part of his nationwide campaign tour ahead of the upcoming NPP primaries, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged that unemployment remains a significant challenge for Ghana. He asserted that the only way for the country to overcome this issue is to create sustainable, innovative job opportunities that align with modern realities.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted his achievements, stating that the mobile money interoperability initiative has created over 900,000 direct MoMo jobs for Ghanaians.

“Ghana is the fastest-growing mobile money market in Africa. Before the introduction of mobile money interoperability, there were only 8 million mobile money subscribers in Ghana; now, that number has increased to about 24 million. Through just one of my ideas, mobile money interoperability has registered over 900,000 mobile money vendors, creating tens of thousands of sustainable jobs for the youth of our country,” he said.

According to the July 2025 Summary of Economic and Financial Data from the Bank of Ghana, the number of registered mobile money agents reached 923,000 as of June 2025, with approximately 423,000 classified as active agents.
