The Enugu State Government yesterday began sealing Bet9ja facilities across the state. This action follows the company’s alleged failure to revalidate operational licenses and settle outstanding financial obligations.
The government stated that it made several administrative efforts to resolve these issues. These efforts specifically addressed license revalidation and unpaid fees. However, the company allegedly failed to comply with these requests.
Enforcement and Regulatory Compliance
Prince Arinze Arum, the Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Gaming and Lottery Commission, led the enforcement team. The operation targeted facilities operated by KC Gaming. Arum confirmed that the commission will extend this action to every Bet9ja outlet within the state.
The commission carried out the enforcement according to the provisions of the Enugu State Gaming and Lottery Law. This move is also backed by a formal court order obtained by the regulatory body. Arum explained that the shutdown became necessary after the operator ignored repeated communications, warnings, and regulatory notices.
Legal Authorization for the Shutdown
A court order from the High Court of Enugu State authorized the commission to restrict access to the business premises. Justice H.O. Eya presided over the division that issued the order. The court cited the company’s failure to remit assessed and demanded gross gaming revenue as the primary reason for the legal action.
The commission emphasized that the shutdown is not limited to the company’s head office. According to Arum, the company ignored multiple directives to revalidate its operational license. It also failed to act on demand notices issued for outstanding gaming fees.
A Professional Approach to Taxation
The commission clarified that gaming fees and taxes are based on professional assessments. These are not arbitrary government decisions but are calculated to ensure a fair marketplace. The enforcement aims to create a properly regulated gaming ecosystem that protects players and ensures fairness among all operators.
