Football legends from around the world are set to converge in Kigali, Rwanda in September for the Veteran Clubs World Championship (VCWC), a 20-game tournament for which betPawa will be the official regional partner.
The VCWC will take place from September 1st to 10th and will feature 150 legendary players participating in the tournament, as well as five economic forums on peace, education, health, business and tourism.
“The legends will come from 60 countries across the world,” said VCWC Founder Fred Siewe. “All those legends decided to be part of the platform because the need was there. How can the legends impact society, impact the youth and give back also to society, as former football players?”
Siewe called on football fans to show up in large numbers for the tournament in Kigali and when the legends visit different African countries ahead of the main event.
betPawa, the official regional partner, will sponsor the event, including pre-event legend visits to Tanzania and Uganda where the former players will engage in community programs such as coaching clinics.
“Supporting this event is a way to give back to the community that trusts our brand and is a way also to support the legends in their mission to create new legends across the continent,” said betPawa Chief Commercial Officer Ntoudi Mouyelo.
Some of the football greats set to participate include Ronaldinho, George Weah, Jay-Jay Okocha, Patrick Mboma, Oliver Kahn, David Trezeguet, Bacary Sagna, Louis Saha, Andy Cole, and Djibril Cissé.
