Member of Parliament for Akuapem North and former Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammi Awuku, has denied reports that he was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on August 15, 2026.

Awuku dismissed the reports in a video shared on TikTok on Sunday, August 16, in which he was seen in Kumasi alongside popular National Democratic Congress (NDC) sympathizer, Appiah Stadium.

Responding to reports of his alleged arrest, Awuku questioned how he could have been detained, when he was in the Eastern Region participating in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) regional elections.

“Claims that I was arrested on Saturday are completely false. Yesterday we had our regional elections, and today, Sunday, I am here in Kumasi,” he said.

His comments come after reports circulated that EOCO had detained him over alleged corruption and financial irregularities relating to his tenure at the NLA. The reported detention was said to be connected to ongoing investigations into financial transactions and other dealings at the Authority.

However, Awuku has rejected the allegations and maintained that the reports of his arrest are false. Kumasi further contradicts claims that he had been taken into EOCO custody. The allegations remain subject to any further clarification or confirmation from EOCO or other relevant authorities.
