In a pivotal move towards ensuring responsible gambling, the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has issued a directive for gambling companies to comply with new regulations concerning their advertisements. The directive follows the Executive Office of the President’s mandate, working in conjunction with the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB), to suspend unregulated gambling advertisements and establish a multi-agency enforcement team.

Key Requirements for Gambling Advertisements

Gambling companies are now required to:

  1. Obtain a filming license for all audiovisual gambling advertisements from KFCB. This can be processed through the Technical Management System (TMS) available on the KFCB’s official website (kfcb.go.ke) or via .
  2. Submit their advertisements for classification by KFCB, which will issue a Certificate of Approval if the content meets regulatory standards.

Additionally, media companies have been directed to refrain from airing unclassified gambling advertisements. This directive aligns with the stipulations of the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap 222, of the Laws of Kenya.
