The National Lottery of Burkina Faso (LONAB) reaffirmed its commitment to promoting journalistic excellence by presenting a special award during the 29th edition of the Galian Awards, held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the Ouaga 2000 Banquet Hall.

Represented by its Director General, Ibrahim Ben Harouna Zarani, LONAB participated in one of Burkina Faso’s most prestigious media events, underscoring its continued support for the country’s journalism sector and its broader commitment to national development. The ceremony was held under the patronage of the President of the People’s Legislative Assembly, Dr. Ousmane Bougouma.

As part of the awards ceremony, LONAB presented its Special Prize to journalist Fleur Birba of Sidwaya for her feature, “The Good Samaritans Give Hope Again,” published on December 3, 2025.

The award recognized the journalist’s outstanding work highlighting LONAB’s social responsibility initiatives, particularly its support for the families of members of the defence and security forces who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The winner received a certificate of recognition, a cash prize of CFA1 million, and commemorative gifts from the Director General of LONAB during the ceremony.

The 29th Galian Awards also marked a historic milestone, with Aïcha Diombele Kabre of RTB Radio becoming the first woman to receive the coveted Super Galian award, the competition’s highest honour.

Through its continued support of the Galian Awards, LONAB aims to encourage quality journalism that contributes to informed public discourse and supports Burkina Faso’s social and economic development.
