Mobile money platforms processed 899 million transactions in February. This was down slightly from 949 million in January and 982 million in December 2025, but up markedly from 698 million in February 2025 a clear sign of sustained year-on-year expansion.

More importantly, active agents those regularly facilitating transactions jumped to 515,000 from 411,000 in February 2025, improving grassroots access to digital payments.

Total balances held in mobile money float accounts stood at GH¢33.9 billion in February 2026. While slightly below January’s GH¢35.6 billion, the balance is well above the GH¢27.9 billion recorded in February 2025, suggesting growing user trust and liquidity on the platforms.

Interoperability between different mobile money networks is advancing. The value of interoperability transactions reached GH¢4.9 billion in February 2026, up from GH¢2.9 billion a year earlier. Transaction counts for interoperable transfers rose to 27.2 million from 19.7 million in February 2025, showing greater convenience and seamless integration across providers.

Registered mobile money accounts increased to 81.8 million in February 2026 (up from 81.2 million in January). Active accounts those used at least once in the past 90 days numbered 26.5 million, indicating a strong base of regular users driving transaction activity.

These mobile money figures were included in the Bank of Ghana’s wider macroeconomic update, which also noted falling inflation, interest rate movements, and exchange rate trends. The Ghana Stock Exchange Composite Index rose 46.7 percent year-to-date as of February 2026, with market capitalization at GH¢235.7 billion.

February’s data confirm mobile money’s central place in Ghana’s financial landscape. Despite small month-to-month fluctuations in volumes and float balances, the long-term trends higher transaction value, larger agent networks, improved interoperability, and rising active users point to continued growth and deeper financial inclusion.
