MPesa Ethiopia has launched a new cardless ATM cash withdrawal service in partnership with Bank of Abyssinia, enabling customers to withdraw cash from supported ATMs without the need for a physical bank card.
The new service, which is accessible through the MPesa Super App, allows users to initiate a withdrawal, authorize the transaction and collect cash in real time from selected Bank of Abyssinia ATMs. The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing customers with greater flexibility and convenience when accessing cash.
To use the cardless ATM withdrawal service, customers can open the MPesa section of the app, select the withdrawal option and choose “Withdraw at ATM.” Users then complete the required authentication process before the transaction is approved and the cash is dispensed immediately from a supported Bank of Abyssinia ATM.
MPesa Ethiopia said the launch represents another milestone in its efforts to expand banking interoperability and strengthen the digital payments ecosystem in Ethiopia. The company also confirmed plans to extend the cardless ATM service to additional banks in the near future.
The partnership with Bank of Abyssinia, one of Ethiopia’s oldest and largest private banks, builds on previous collaborations between the two institutions. These have included wallet-to-bank transfers and agent banking services, further supporting the integration of mobile money and traditional banking services.
The launch comes as M-Pesa Ethiopia continues to expand its range of digital financial services. Recent additions to the platform have included integrations for prepaid electricity payments and tax collection services, broadening the ways customers can use the M-Pesa platform for everyday financial transactions.
As of June 2026, M-Pesa Ethiopia had more than 5.6 million three-month active users, reflecting the platform’s continued growth and expanding presence in Ethiopia’s competitive mobile money market.
The new cardless ATM cash withdrawal service is expected to improve customer convenience by providing a fully digital option for accessing cash, particularly for users who may not have their physical bank card with them or who prefer to manage their transactions through their mobile devices.
The collaboration between M-Pesa Ethiopia and Bank of Abyssinia highlights the continued development of digital payments, mobile money and banking interoperability in Ethiopia, while providing customers with additional options for accessing financial services securely and conveniently.
