Staff of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) have embarked on industrial action, citing concerns over their conditions of service, operational challenges and other workplace-related issues.

The workers reportedly gathered at the NLA headquarters in Accra on August 24, as they called for urgent action to address concerns affecting staff welfare and the Authority’s operations.

Among their demands was the removal of NLA Director-General, Alhaji Mohammed Abdul-Salam. The workers raised concerns about what they described as challenges relating to working conditions and the availability of essential operational resources.

The industrial action also comes amid an ongoing dispute over the 2026 salary adjustment. The NLA management had proposed a 12 percent increase, while the local union had reportedly demanded a 17 percent adjustment.

The development temporarily disrupted activities at the Authority, including its lottery operations, as staff called attention to the issues they want management and relevant stakeholders to address.

Management has maintained that it remains committed to resolving the concerns through dialogue and the appropriate labour relations processes, while efforts continue to find an amicable resolution to the dispute.

The situation has drawn attention to the need for continued engagement between the NLA management, staff representatives and relevant government institutions to address the outstanding concerns and promote industrial harmony within the Authority.
