National Lottery Finalizes Strategic Benchmarking Visit to Gaming Board

Kenya–Tanzania National Lottery Benchmarking Strengthens Regional Oversight

The National Lottery Board (NLB) has successfully concluded a strategic benchmarking and knowledge-exchange visit to the Gaming Board of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam, as Kenya advances preparations for the launch and operationalization of its National Lottery.

The engagement forms part of the Board’s broader efforts to draw on regional best practices and strengthen the institutional frameworks required to establish a sustainable, transparent, and impactful lottery ecosystem.

The Kenyan delegation, led by Board Chairperson Dr. Farida Karoney, held a series of comprehensive discussions with officials from the Gaming Board of Tanzania. The talks focused on critical areas of lottery administration and regulation, with attention on how to build systems that can operate effectively while meeting strong governance and oversight standards.

Topics explored included governance structures, lottery operations, regulatory and systems oversight, revenue collection and management, and accountability measures. The delegation also discussed compliance frameworks and the effective use of both retail and digital channels to enhance accessibility and improve operational efficiency.

In addition, the visit provided an opportunity to examine practical approaches to consumer protection, stakeholder engagement, and responsible gaming within lottery environments. Beyond the technical discussions, the engagement served as an important platform for regional collaboration and mutual learning.
