Nigerian Developer Shalom Rayhamen Lagos Life Surpasses 1 million Players

Nigerian developer Shalom Rayhamen has attracted more than one million players in just a few days with “Lagos Life,” a free browser-based simulation game inspired by everyday life in Lagos.

Launched in early October 2026, the game lets players create a character, find work, earn and spend virtual naira, pay rent, and explore locations inspired by Nigeria’s economic capital. It can be played in a browser, with no downloads or console required.

Players are assigned one of two profiles. “Nepo” offers a more privileged start, with money and connections, while “Lapo” presents a greater challenge, with fewer resources and reliance on microloans.

The game grew from more than 100,000 users to one million in just a few days. The outlet also reported that more than 100,000 players were connected at the same time during its viral rise.

Rayhamen says she drew inspiration from The Sims 3, which she played as a child, and the Nigerian game Lagos Run. She created a multiplayer world where players can meet, chat, work, and build their virtual lives in a city shaped by Lagos food, music, neighborhoods, and humor. The game’s popularity also highlights the growing appeal of gaming across Africa.

The game’s rapid growth has already brought some challenges. A glitch allowed players to generate large amounts of virtual money. Rayhamen reset the affected earnings and announced that fixes were on the way. The official site describes Lagos Life as a work of fiction created for entertainment.
