As part of its unwavering commitment to corporate social responsibility and social welfare, the National Lottery Authority (NLA), under the leadership of Director General Hon. Peter L. Solo, has officially launched its July 26, 2026, Food Distribution Program with the donation of assorted food rations to Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs), orphanage homes, old folks’ homes, and other vulnerable groups across Montserrado County.

The NLA’s initiative, launched in observance of Liberia’s 179th Independence Day, reflects the Authority’s continued dedication to ensuring that proceeds generated from the gaming industry positively impact the lives of vulnerable Liberians through meaningful social interventions.

Speaking at the official launch ceremony held at the NLA Headquarters on Old Road on Tuesday, July 14, Director General Hon. Peter L. Solo described the initiative as a demonstration of the Authority’s commitment to compassion, inclusion, and responsible corporate citizenship. According to him, the National Lottery Authority recognizes that the true measure of national development lies in the collective responsibility to care for society’s most vulnerable citizens.

“Today, we officially launch this year’s food distribution program to reaffirm our commitment to serving humanity. This initiative goes beyond the distribution of food; it symbolizes hope, solidarity, and our determination to ensure that the benefits derived from the gaming industry are returned to the Liberian people, particularly those who need them the most,” Hon. Solo stated.

The Director General disclosed that approximately 180 beneficiary institutions and organizations across Montserrado County will benefit from the distribution of assorted food and selected non-food items.

The beneficiaries include:

• Safe homes and orphanages caring for vulnerable children.
• Organizations representing Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs).
• Old Folks’ and Elderly Care Homes.
• Welfare institutions serving vulnerable communities and prisons.
• Community-based organizations and other vulnerable groups.

Hon. Solo emphasized that supporting disadvantaged Liberians remains one of the Authority’s core social welfare priorities, noting that the NLA will continue implementing initiatives that improve the welfare of underserved communities.

The Director General also announced the Authority’s intention to provide tuition assistance to students living with disabilities enrolled at community colleges and the state university, stressing that education remains one of the most effective pathways toward empowerment and self-reliance.

“Education is the greatest equalizer. We believe that no capable Liberian should be denied access to higher education because of financial challenges. Through this support, we hope to empower students living with disabilities to pursue their academic aspirations and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he added.

Hon. Solo further called on all beneficiary institutions and partner organizations to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability in distributing the donated items, ensuring that they reach their intended beneficiaries. He reaffirmed the National Lottery Authority’s commitment to operating under the principles of integrity, accountability, and responsible gaming while expanding its social welfare interventions to positively impact vulnerable populations.

The Director General expressed appreciation to the Government of Liberia, the Authority’s Board of Directors, management, staff, development partners, and members of the media for their continued support in advancing the NLA’s humanitarian initiatives.

“As we commemorate our nation’s Independence, let us also renew our commitment to caring for one another. Together, we can build a more compassionate, inclusive, and prosperous Liberia where no vulnerable citizen is left behind,” Hon. Solo concluded.

The National Lottery Authority remains steadfast in promoting responsible gaming while utilizing resources generated from the gaming sector to support impactful social welfare programs that improve the lives of vulnerable Liberians and contribute to national development.
