South Africa’s National Lotteries Commission (NLC) is increasing its engagement with provincial stakeholders in the Western Cape as it looks for new ways to support cultural, arts, and sports development.
NLC Commissioner Jodi Scholtz met with Western Cape MEC for Cultural Affairs and Sport, Ricardo Mackenzie, to discuss possible collaboration to maximize the impact of lottery funding across the province. The talks form part of the NLC’s broader mandate to ensure that funds directed to good causes create long-term benefits for communities.
As part of the same initiative, the NLC is also set to hand over support to Cricket South Africa (CSA) to help with preparations for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. The tournament will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, featuring 57 matches across 12 venues from October 2 to November 21, 2027. South Africa is among the host nations.
The initiative underscores how lottery funding can contribute to both sports and community development, while strengthening cooperation between the NLC, the provincial government, and sporting bodies.
With the 2027 Cricket World Cup expected to attract major international attention to Southern Africa, partnerships like this are expected to further support the region’s broader sporting and social development goals.
