NWGB and DEDECT Strengthen Community Awareness on Responsible Gambling

The North West Gambling Board (NWGB), in partnership with the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT), engaged with the community of Matsatseng Village to raise awareness of business compliance, illegal gambling and responsible gambling.

The engagement brought together representatives from various businesses, cooperatives and private companies, while highlighting the risks associated with illegal and irresponsible gambling and their potential impact on individuals, families and communities.

The NWGB emphasized the importance of rejecting illegal gambling, noting that unlicensed operators operate outside the law and can expose individuals and communities to financial and social harm.

Residents were also encouraged to gamble responsibly by understanding the odds, setting personal limits and never gambling beyond what they can afford to lose.

The Board further highlighted that help is available for individuals and families affected by problem gambling. Free counseling and treatment services are provided through the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF).

The engagement underscored the importance of community awareness and collaboration in promoting lawful business practices, preventing illegal gambling and protecting communities from the harmful effects of problem gambling.

The NWGB encouraged residents and businesses to stay informed, comply with applicable regulations and make responsible choices.
