MEC Tshitereke Matibe, together with the Limpopo Gambling Board (LGB) and the South African Police Service (SAPS), today led a decisive enforcement operation resulting in the destruction of more than 200 illegal gambling machines confiscated across the province.

The destruction exercise, held at E-Waste Limpopo in Polokwane, forms part of ongoing efforts to enforce the Limpopo Gambling Act and clamp down on illegal gambling activities that pose risks to vulnerable communities. Authorities emphasised that the operation reflects a strengthened commitment to protecting children and residents from the social and economic harms associated with unlawful gambling practices.

“This action demonstrates our resolve to ensure that illegal gambling operations have no place in Limpopo,” said MEC Tshitereke Matibe. “We will continue working closely with law enforcement and regulatory bodies to uphold the law and safeguard our communities.” The Limpopo Gambling Board, in collaboration with SAPS, has intensified compliance and enforcement measures across the province, targeting unlicensed gambling machines and operators.

Officials confirmed that further operations will continue as part of a broader provincial strategy to eliminate illegal gambling networks and promote responsible, regulated gaming environments. The Limpopo Provincial Government reaffirmed its commitment to building safe, thriving communities free from illegal and harmful activities.
