A resident of the Ndwedwe area, just outside Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, has become Sizekhaya’s first-ever Lottery PowerBall Jackpot winner after scooping an incredible R128 million.
The life-changing prize was won in the PowerBall draw on 2 June 2026 after the lucky player matched all the winning numbers with a R30 ticket purchased at a Boxer store in the iLembe District.
What began as a routine lottery entry turned into an extraordinary moment. Rather than relying on a quick pick, the winner manually selected numbers that held deep personal meaning, choosing dates that were significant in his life.
Like millions of South Africans, he watched the live PowerBall draw on eTV at 9:00 pm, unaware that he was about to become a multi-millionaire.
“I could hardly believe what I was seeing,” he recalled. “As each number appeared, I became more and more convinced that something extraordinary was happening. When the final numbers were drawn, I was overwhelmed with disbelief.”
Despite the excitement, the winner chose to wait until the following day to verify his ticket at an authorized Sizekhaya retailer, where his remarkable win was officially confirmed. A regular National Lottery player for more than 15 years, he said he never imagined he would one day walk away with a jackpot worth R128 million.
Now faced with a life-changing fortune, the winner is looking ahead to securing a brighter future for his family. Having experienced extended periods of unemployment, he plans to use part of the prize money to build a comfortable and secure home and carry out long-awaited home improvements.
“This win means everything to me and my family,” he said. “It gives us an opportunity to build a better future and create lasting opportunities for generations to come.”
To help winners navigate such a dramatic financial change, Sizekhaya provides all major jackpot winners with Extended Support Services, including professional trauma counselling and financial advisory support. The programme is designed to help winners manage their wealth responsibly and make informed financial decisions that can benefit future generations.
The historic payout also marks an important milestone for Sizekhaya as it celebrates its first PowerBall multi-millionaire since taking over operations of South Africa’s National Lottery. “We are delighted for our winner and his family,” a Sizekhaya spokesperson said.
“Beyond the excitement of winning, we are committed to ensuring that winners receive the support, guidance and education necessary to navigate this life-changing experience successfully.
We are honoured to be part of a journey that has the potential to transform not only one person’s life, but the lives of future generations.”
