SportPesa is strengthening its commitment to African sport through a new partnership with the Tanzania Rugby Union (TRU), supporting rugby development from grassroots to the national stage.
As Official Title Sponsor of the National Rugby Sevens Circuit, SportPesa will give the competition a new name: the SportPesa National Saba Circuit. Over the five-month campaign, the partnership will support tournament visibility, fan engagement, content and on-the-ground activations, alongside initiatives to develop rugby talent.
The partnership builds on SportPesa’s wider support for rugby across the continent, including its long-term involvement in the sport’s development in Kenya and South Africa. In Tanzania, the focus is on strengthening the people and structures behind the game.
As part of this work, SportPesa and TRU recently hosted a Rugby Level One training session at the University of Dar es Salaam. Led by Rugby Africa’s Robert Bwali, the session brought together match officials, technical staff and coaches from across Tanzania for classroom and practical training.
The partnership is also bringing renewed attention to domestic sevens rugby. The second leg of the 2026 SportPesa National Saba Circuit, Dar Rugby Saba, brought 11 men’s and women’s teams to the Leaders Club grounds. Free entry helped bring supporters closer to the action, while matches and highlights were live-streamed on TV3 Sports across Azam and StarTimes.
SportPesa is also supporting Tanzania’s men’s national team, the Twiga Kings, as they travel to South Africa to compete in the Obaro 7s in October.
For SportPesa, the partnership reflects a broader commitment to creating opportunities for athletes, coaches and communities through sports sponsorship. By supporting both competition and development, SportPesa and TRU aim to strengthen the foundations for rugby’s continued growth in Tanzania.
