A concerned youth from Kalomo District, Eraston Gwangwazu, is urging the Zambian government to consider a ban on betting sites, with a specific focus on Aviator, commonly known as “Kandeke.”

In a heartfelt letter to President Hakainde Hichilema, Gwangwazu expressed the dire consequences of gambling among young people in Zambia. While acknowledging the financial contributions that betting companies make through taxes, he emphasized that the negative impact of these platforms far outweighs the benefits.

“Many young people have fallen into deep poverty, debt, and depression due to gambling on Aviator,” Gwangwazu stated. “When they lose money, they are left hopeless, and, tragically, some have even taken their own lives.”

Gwangwazu highlighted the destructive nature of the Aviator game, which he believes is eroding the future of the nation. He noted that families are breaking apart, public institutions are being affected, and an alarming rise in depression among youth is evident.

“Some may argue that betting is a matter of personal choice, but the truth is that Aviator is both addictive and destructive,” he added. “Unless strong measures are taken, we risk losing more young lives and undermining the productivity of our nation.”

In his appeal, Gwangwazu stressed the importance of focusing on true wealth through hard work, innovation, and productivity rather than gambling.

“I urge you, Mr. President, to take decisive action and ban betting platforms like Aviator for the sake of the lives and future of Zambians,” Gwangwazu concluded. “This action could save many young people from falling into depression, poverty, and even death.”
