Breast Cancer Awareness Event in Angola
The Gaming Supervision Institute (ISJ) has organized a Breast Cancer awareness event in Angola.
Additionally, the event aims to promote early detection, encourage regular medical check-ups, and support people affected by the disease.
Held on October 29 under the theme ‘My Story, Our Hope!’, the initiative brought together ISJ employees.
The session addressed Breast Cancer awareness, personal experiences, and importance of early diagnosis with Amor Gera Amor Association and IACC.
At the opening of the event, Dr Eduarda do Amaral Gourgel, representing the Amor Gera Amor Association, introduced employees to the organization’s work and the projects it supports.
She highlighted the association’s partnership with ISJ through the institute’s Support and Sponsorship Policy. The initiative provides educational assistance to vulnerable children, including school funding for 40 new beneficiaries during the 2026/2027 academic year and the provision of school supplies to 92 existing scholarship recipients.
The support is intended to help beneficiaries continue their education and improve access to learning opportunities.
Dr Jandira of the IACC shared a personal account.
She spoke about her experience from receiving a Breast Cancer diagnosis through to accessing care and treatment.
Her testimony highlighted the importance of seeking medical attention, undergoing recommended examinations and supporting people navigating the challenges of the disease. She also encouraged employees to remain informed and proactive about their health.
The awareness session also emphasized practical steps individuals can take to monitor their breast health and reduce potential risk factors.
Participants were encouraged to:
- Carry out regular breast self-examinations.
- Watch for unusual lumps in the breast or armpit, changes in the skin or nipple, and abnormal discharge.
- Seek medical assessment whenever changes are noticed, even when there is no pain.
- Consult healthcare professionals about appropriate screening based on age and personal or family medical history.
- Maintain a healthy lifestyle through regular physical activity, a healthy weight, avoiding tobacco and limiting alcohol consumption.
- Offer emotional support, understanding and companionship to people affected by breast cancer.
ISJ stressed that early detection and timely treatment can improve the chances of successful outcomes, while access to reliable information and appropriate medical care remains essential.
The institute thanked the Amor Gera Amor Association and the Angolan Institute for Cancer Control for their contributions to the initiative, reaffirming the importance of collaboration in promoting health awareness, prevention and support for people affected by breast cancer.
