Cashier Sentenced for Theft and Gambling in Ghana

The Kaneshie District Court One has sentenced 23-year-old cashier Andy Tetteh to three months in prison with hard labor for stealing GHC 8,575.00 from his employer at the Ecomog betting shop to fund his gambling.

Tetteh, who lost the money through betting, admitted to the offense during his arraignment. He was convicted based on his own plea.

Police Chief Inspector Achana Apewah informed the court that the complainant, Teye Simon Kwabla, is the Manager at Bingo Bets, located in Ecomog, Adabraka. Tetteh was employed as a cashier at the company and resided in Ecomog.

On April 30, 2025, Tetteh received cash totaling GHC 8,575.00 from customers placing bets but failed to account for the money to the Manager.

The complainant reported the incident to the police, which led to Tetteh’s arrest. Investigations revealed that he had used the stolen money to place bets but lost the entire amount.

Chief Inspector Apewah stated that after completing the investigation, Tetteh was charged with the offense and brought before the court.
