Uganda Responsible Gambling Campaign

National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board, through its Responsible Gambling Team, recently conducted a sensitization campaign across secondary schools in Nakasongola District as part of its continued effort to foster a culture of responsible gaming and combat underage gaming.

This outreach initiative targeted adolescents and educators, reaching over 4,000 students and teachers from four schools:

  • St. Joseph’s Vocational Secondary School
  • Nakasongola Senior Secondary School
  • Nakasongola Army School
  • Kakooge Senior Secondary School

As part of its ongoing commitment to protect young people, the National Gaming Board Uganda (NGBU) recently conducted an outreach initiative in secondary schools across Nakasongola District to address and prevent underage gaming.

Awareness Sessions: The campaign included comprehensive awareness sessions that highlighted the risks and long-term consequences of underage gaming. Topics discussed included the psychological, academic, and social effects of early exposure to gambling and gaming practices.

Educational Materials: To reinforce the message, the team distributed branded educational materials such as t-shirts, posters, and flyers. These materials featured clear, age-appropriate messaging designed to resonate with students and encourage responsible decision-making.

Lasting Impact: As part of a strategic initiative to sustain awareness, the Board erected branded signposts within school compounds. These signposts display strong messages against underage gaming, serving as daily reminders for students about the importance of informed choices and avoiding harmful gaming behaviors.

Importance of Early Intervention: A representative from the Responsible Gaming Team emphasized the significance of early intervention: “Educating young people about the dangers of underage gaming is key to preventing addiction and promoting healthier lifestyles. By engaging them directly in schools, we can shape attitudes early and build a generation that understands the importance of responsible gaming.”

National Commitment: This sensitization campaign is part of NGBU’s broader national mandate to promote safe gaming practices and protect vulnerable groups, particularly the youth, from exploitation and harm.

This campaign is part of NGBU’s broader commitment to promote safe gaming practices and protect vulnerable youth from exploitation. Plans are in place to extend similar outreach programs to other districts in the coming months, reinforcing NGBU’s dedication to safeguarding Uganda’s future generations.
