The General Overseer of Open Arms Ministry, St. Sark, has criticized Ghana’s religious and sporting communities, insisting that no genuine man of God should issue prophecies about football matches.

The outspoken preacher also criticised Sports Minister Kofi Adams, accusing him of relying on spiritual predictions instead of adopting practical strategies to improve the country’s sporting fortunes.

Speaking at a press conference at his church auditorium, St. Sark expressed frustration over the failed prophecies surrounding Ghana’s recent FIFA World Cup campaign. He argued that such predictions have brought embarrassment to the Christian faith and exposed what he described as false prophets.

He specifically questioned Kofi Adams’ widely publicized visit to the church of Adom Kyei-Duah before the World Cup, saying the minister placed too much faith in spiritual intervention for what should be a matter of sound planning and administration.

“I asked why Kofi Adams went there and for what purpose. Is Adom Kyei a true prophet or clergy? He himself has revealed it live on TV that he’s not. I told them he is not, and you all saw what eventually happened,” St. Sark said.

According to him, effective leadership in sports requires competence, preparation and proactive decision-making, not prophetic declarations. He warned that relying on spiritual predictions for football results reflects misplaced priorities and is likely to end in disappointment.

“God has nothing to do with football; a game that is full of spells (juju) and many other ungodly acts,” he said.

St. Sark maintained that the primary role of genuine prophets is to preach repentance and salvation, not to predict football scorelines or match outcomes.

“No true prophet of God will come out to predict football scorelines. If you are a prophet, football is not your assignment. I said it before the World Cup that God is not concerned about football, and the Church has no business predicting match results. Those who predicted football results were lying because God has nothing to do with football,” he stated.

He further argued that modern football is driven by commercial interests, technology and gambling, making it inappropriate, in his view, for ministers of the gospel to associate God’s name with match predictions.

St. Sark also called on media organisations to exercise greater editorial responsibility by refusing to give airtime to individuals who claim to receive divine revelations about football matches.

According to him, broadcasting such predictions misleads the public, creates unnecessary national anxiety and undermines the credibility of the Church.

“The media must stop entertaining these so-called prophecies because they only bring embarrassment,” he said.
