The total value of mobile money transactions reached a record GHC 4.5 trillion in 2025, according to the Summary of Economic and Financial Data released by the Bank of Ghana on January 29, 2026. This report highlights strong month-on-month growth, especially in the last quarter of 2025.
The figures show that in September 2025, the total value of transactions was GHC 406.9 billion. In October, the value increased to GHC 434.7 billion, then eased slightly to GHC 420 billion in November 2025. In December 2025, the total value surged to GHC 518 billion. These amounts represent the total reported by telecom operators in the mobile money sector to the Bank of Ghana for transactions conducted from January to December 2025.
Year-on-year performance saw the total value of mobile money transactions hit GHC 1 trillion in 2022, rise to GHC 1.9 trillion in 2023, and increase to GHC 3 trillion in 2024, with a provisional estimate of GHC 4.5 trillion for 2025.
Industry players attribute this growth to an increasing number of people using mobile money for payments. The Bank of Ghana and commercial banks have intensified efforts to promote a cashless economy, and more institutions are now accepting mobile money as a payment method. Analysts indicate that these developments have significantly contributed to the surge in total transaction value.
As of December 2025, the total number of mobile money transactions reached 982 million. Active mobile money accounts stood at 26.7 million, while active mobile money agents totaled 960,000.
