The Gaming Supervision Institute (ISJ) has strengthened dialogue with the Gaming and Lotteries Authority of Malawi (MAGLA) following a high-level meeting focused on regulatory cooperation, knowledge sharing and the development of closer institutional ties between the two African gaming regulators.
The ISJ received a delegation from MAGLA on August 13, led by its Director-General, Muchanankhwaye Mpuluka. MAGLA is responsible for regulating and supervising gaming, betting and lottery activities in the Republic of Malawi.
The meeting was led by Nerethz Tati, Director General of the ISJ, and provided a platform for the two institutions to exchange experiences and discuss regulatory challenges affecting the gaming sector in Angola and Malawi. Discussions also explored opportunities to strengthen institutional cooperation and technical collaboration between the two regulators.
As part of the discussions, ISJ and MAGLA considered the possibility of establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation and facilitating mutual technical assistance.
The proposed framework could provide a basis for greater exchange of regulatory knowledge, documentation, procedures, checklists and operational experiences between the two institutions. Such cooperation could be particularly valuable given that a significant number of gaming operators active in the Angolan and Malawian markets operate across both jurisdictions.
By sharing regulatory experiences and technical resources, the two authorities could strengthen their institutional capacities and support more efficient and coordinated supervision of gaming activities across their respective markets.
The engagement reflects the commitment of ISJ and MAGLA to strengthening regulatory dialogue and promoting a safe, responsible, transparent and properly regulated gaming sector. Continued exchange of knowledge and best practices is expected to support the development of stronger regulatory frameworks and improve oversight of gaming activities in both countries.
