The National Lottery Authority (NLA) of Ghana is enhancing its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts by partnering with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) to improve healthcare delivery across the country. GMTF officials visited NLA offices to discuss collaboration aimed at upgrading hospital infrastructure and medical equipment nationwide.

NLA Director-General Mohammed Abdul-Salam, the Deputy Director-General Eric Wadie, the Director of Corporate Communications Afua Offie and GMTF Administrator, Obuobia Darko-Opoku, attended and voiced strong optimism regarding the partnership. The NLA stated, “Contributing to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund aligns with our CSR objectives and our mandate to use lottery proceeds for good causes.”

Obuobia Darko-Opoku explained that the Fund, established under Act 114, has initiated a nationwide needs assessment of hospitals. This assessment identified significant gaps in medical infrastructure and diagnostic equipment, particularly in MRI, CT scans, dialysis, and breast screening services.

Many hospitals are struggling to provide adequate healthcare due to outdated facilities. Darko-Opoku urged corporate institutions like the NLA to partner with the Fund to enhance hospital capabilities and strengthen healthcare delivery.

The NLA indicated its willingness to explore various support mechanisms for the Fund, including project-based partnerships or annual contributions. This initiative aims to create a lasting impact on the health sector. The collaboration illustrates how lottery operators in Africa can direct their revenues toward social impact projects, serving as a potential model for others on the continent
