The North West Gambling Board (NWGB), in collaboration with the Office of the Premier, the Department of Social Development, the Department of Justice and other key stakeholders, participated in a Social Cohesion and Moral Regeneration Dialogue held at the Madibogo Community Hall under the theme, “Re Baagisane, A Re Agisaneng Sentle.”
The engagement brought together community members and stakeholders to reflect on critical social challenges affecting communities and explore collective solutions aimed at strengthening social cohesion, promoting responsible citizenship and building safer communities.
The programme commenced with a candle-lighting ceremony symbolizing remembrance and hope, followed by a community dialogue focused on good parenthood, good neighborhoods, drug and substance abuse, tackling crime through partnerships, and the gender-based violence and femicide (GBV-F) nexus.
As part of the engagement, the NWGB highlighted the important role of responsible gambling in promoting social cohesion and protecting families from gambling-related harm. The Board used the platform to raise awareness about the dangers of illegal gambling and encouraged community members to engage only in lawful and responsible gambling activities.
The NWGB further informed participants that free treatment and counselling services are available through the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF) for individuals and families affected by gambling addiction. The Board emphasized the importance of seeking support early and ensuring that gambling remains a form of regulated entertainment rather than a source of financial dependence.
The dialogue reinforced the message that strong and resilient communities are built through awareness, collective responsibility and unity. By bringing government institutions, communities and other stakeholders together, the engagement provided an important platform for addressing social challenges and strengthening partnerships that contribute to safer and more cohesive communities.
The NWGB remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote responsible gambling, protect communities from gambling-related harm and contribute to social and economic well-being across the North West Province.
