The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has issued a reminder to taxpayers to meet their tax obligations before the June 14 deadline, with gaming and betting tax among the key payments due this month.
According to the authority’s latest compliance notice, several tax categories must be settled by the deadline, including presumptive tax on gaming and betting activities, turnover tax, withholding tax, rental income tax, the tourism levy, and Advance Income Tax (AIT).
The reminder comes as Zambia’s regulated gambling sector continues to operate under a broader taxation framework. Earlier this year, the Betting Levy Act No. 27 of 2025 came into effect, introducing a 5% charge on deposits into player gaming accounts and an additional 5% levy on withdrawals.
In addition, gaming and betting operators remain subject to a 10% excise duty on betting stakes under the Customs and Excise (Amendment) Act No. 11 of 2025.
The tax faced resistance from sections of the industry, with operators such as BetPawa and Betway challenging the measure in court in 2025 over concerns about its financial impact. However, the Constitutional Court ultimately dismissed the legal challenge, allowing the excise duty to remain in force.
The latest reminder reflects the government’s continued focus on strengthening tax compliance across multiple sectors, including gaming and betting. Authorities have maintained that the various levies are intended to enhance domestic revenue collection while ensuring that licensed operators contribute to national development through the formal tax system.
