Mzuzu City Hammers have sealed a lucrative K30 million sponsorship deal with leading sports betting company Betika for the upcoming 2024 season, according to a report.

The three-year partnership was officially announced during a ceremony held in Mzuzu on Friday. As part of the agreement, Betika will provide the Super League club with a substantial cash package, as well as branded team kits and replica jerseys prominently featuring the company’s logo.

Highlighting their commitment to recognizing outstanding talent, Betika will also present a monthly prize of K200,000 to the Mzuzu City Hammers’ best player throughout the season.

Gift Govati, Betika Malawi’s Country Manager, expressed the company’s goals behind the sponsorship, stating, “Through this partnership, we aim to foster talent development within the team while simultaneously increasing the visibility of our brand. We have high hopes for the team’s success this season.”

The Chairperson of the Mzuzu City Hammers, Gift Mkandawire, shared his excitement about the financial support, emphasizing its potential to enhance the team’s performance as they set their sights on a top-eight finish. Mkandawire further disclosed that the club had utilized a loan to acquire a 29-seater bus, a strategic move aimed at reducing transportation costs and facilitating smoother operations.

The ceremony also featured jersey auctions, attracting prominent figures such as Sulom President Gilbert Mitawa, who acquired a replica jersey for a commendable sum of K500,000. FAM Vice President Lameck Khonje and Henry Banda each purchased a jersey for K200,000, underscoring their support for the team and the partnership.

Dignitaries present at the event included Mzuzu City Council CEO Gomezgani Nyasulu, FAM representative Akuzike Kafwamba, and Sulom Vice General Secretary Donnex Chilonga.

Chilonga, the Sulom Vice General Secretary, expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration, stating, “It is our sincere desire to witness Super League teams securing impactful sponsorships that contribute to their growth and success.”

Betika, having commenced operations in Malawi in 2022, further solidifies its commitment to Malawian football as the title sponsor of the highly anticipated Betika Sapitwa top four tournament.
